Deniedcraft: Minecraft server slammed by upset fans, creator takes action

If you’ve noticed that the server that’s home to devilishly addicted indie darling Minecraft has been a little slow this week, there’s a good reason why. A group of what are apparently disgruntled players of the game have orchestrated a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on the hardware, overwhelming it and — at least for a time — bringing it to its knees. In a post on the notorious message board 4chan, a person claiming to represent the group said that the DDoS attack was designed to “send [ Minecraft creator Markus Persson] a clear message of how the future of Minecraft will turn out unless he gets to work, namely by influencing the amount of sales taking place, due to the attacks.” On his blog , Persson has stated that he’s “signed up for a DDoS protection service, and took the chance to upgrade the server hardware to a much more powerful beast.” The latter is still a work in progress.

Capcom launches Ace Attorney 10th anniversary website on 9th anniversary

Capcom must be planning something big for the 10th anniversary of the Ace Attorney series, as it’s opened an anniversary website exactly one year early. Either that or someone thought this year was the 10th anniversary, and Capcom just decided to roll with it. The anniversary site features commentary by series composers, staff, and even the actress who played Phoenix Wright in the Takarazuka Revue musicals

Sony files to dismiss ‘Other OS’ class action lawsuit

SCEA has filed a motion to dismiss a class action brought against the company for its removal of the PS3′s “Other OS” feature, which allowed users to install Linux on the system. Sony argues that the lawsuit, a consolidation of seven similar suits filed last spring, fails to present evidence that the company overtly advertised Other OS in its marketing campaigns or on PS3 packaging. Sony’s filing also claims that the PS3 warranty, license agreement and the PlayStation Network Terms of Service “specifically provide PS3 purchasers with a license, not an ownership interest, in the software and in the use of the PSN, and provide that SCEA has the right to disable or alter software features or terminate or limit access to the PSN, including by issuing firmware updates,” according to court documents obtained by IGN .

Since its release, the PS3 has put up a strong wall against hackers. The piracy problems that have plagued other systems — including Sony’s own PSP — just haven’t been an issue. Now a group purports to have designed a USB plug-and-play device that defeats Sony’s copy protection.

Monday Night Combat trailer schools us on sniping

Aside from having to deal with a grumbling tummy , we can’t imagine there’s much to being a sniper. But according to both Tom Berenger and the latest trailer for Monday Night Combat just past the break, there’s plenty more to it. Aside from being a bit off , every good Monday Night Combat sniper should have a repository of skills to call upon — including traps that freeze your enemies in their tracks and a rather neat grapple skill that allows for some flashy melee maneuvers.

Have you met Marcus ‘PSP’ Rivers?

He’s kind of like Kevin Butler , but he’s a lot younger and he’s all about the PSP. His name is Marcus, Marcus ‘PSP’ Rivers (we’re not confident that’s his Christian name) and he’s the face of a new ad campaign that Sony’s running to promote the PSP and PSP Go: “Step Your Game Up.” We saw a glimpse of the little scamp during Sony’s E3 presser , but apparently Marcus will be branching off on his own in the coming months. A PlayStation blog post details the campaign and points out Marcus’ YouTube channel which is full of clips from pieces currently running “on over 19 networks.” We’ve embedded a couple of our favorites after the break, so head on past to make with the yucks.
